Nell Fortner

USA Basketball Women's National Team head coach since 1997, Nell Fortner is on the verge of finally achieving her childhood dream of becoming an Olympic coach when the 2000 Games kick off in September. She has spent the last three years traveling the globe, coaching 10 different U.S. squads to an impressive an impressive 84-14 (.857) overall record as a USA Basketball head coach.

Fortner's success with the USA National Team Program has not gone unnoticed. She was named on August 17, 1999, head coach of the expansion WNBA Indiana Fever. Indiana found her so desirable, they agreed to wait until after the Olympics were over and until the 2001 WNBA season before seeing Fortner take full control. Fortner kicked off the Women's National Team's 1999-2000 campaign where she left off in 1998 - with a gold medal and piloted to squad to a 29-2 record as of August 14 in preparing the National Team for Sydney.

She led the USA Women's National Team to the gold medal at the 1999 U.S. Olympic Cup and the championship at the USA Basketball International Invitational. The Fortner led American squad compiled a combined 7-0 record at the two tournaments versus three of the world's strongest women's national teams in Australia, Brazil and Poland.
